1956 Don Robertson – The Happy Whistler
Don Robertson had a long career as a songwriter, but in 1956 he also reached the charts with his own record. Although he might have played piano or some other instruments on the recording, he didn’t sing. Perhaps the title of the song reveals the reason: The Happy Whistler.
His single reached #6 on the Hot 100 in 1956.
Don never again reached the charts with his own solo recordings, but he did co-write Please Help Me I’m Falling with Hal Blair, and the song reached the pop top ten and reached #1 on the Country charts in 1960.
He co-wrote hit records for many Country artists, and even Elvis recorded over a dozen songs Don co-wrote. They inducted Don into the Nashville Songwriters Association’s Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 1972.
