1967 Donovan – There Is A Mountain

Donovan’s early career primarily focused on folk music, but by 1966 he had taken a turn towards jazz and psychedelic rock. His sales exploded with the release of the single Sunshine Superman, which even had three members of the future supergroup Led Zeppelin playing on the record.

In 1967, he released a single that reflected the Zen Buddhism writings of Qingyuan Weixin: There Is A Mountain. The single peaked at #11 on the Hot 100. Donovan toured the US to promote his latest music and used a jazz group as backup musicians.

Perhaps one of the most interesting team-ups in music in the late sixties occurred when Donovan and Sergio Mendes appeared together on The Hollywood Palace in 1968 and performed a jazzy version of There Is A Mountain.
